Kremlin says highly appreciates Gref as Sberbank CEO
MOSCOW, Jan 24 (PRIME) -- The Kremlin highly appreciates the work of German Gref as the CEO of national top lender Sberbank and in other areas as well, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
“German Oskarovich is really an extremely successful leader of Sberbank, and not just of Sberbank. You know that he is directly involved in the processes of artificial intelligence and so on. He is involved in so many processes, of course, his work is very much appreciated,” Peskov said.
Gref said on Thursday he hopes that Sberbank’s strategy will not change if its controlling stake is transferred from the central bank to the government. “If the concept is changed, then I don’t see my place in the company,” he said.
The authorities are currently considering transferring the controlling stake in Sberbank from the central bank to the government due to a conflict of interests as the central bank is simultaneously a regulator and a shareholder of Sberbank.
